Organoids are offering new possibilities in therapeutic screening and regenerative medicine. They're ability to model human organs allows for the creation of personalized medicine and better predictions of a patient's response to treatment, as well as offering a potential solution to the shortage of organs for transplantation. Early research has shown positive results, with successful integration and maturation of transplanted organoids in rodent models. Organoids can also be used to improve the function of dysfunctional organs, with successful applications reported in retinal ganglion cell diseases, heart function restoration, and lung diseases. Explore the challenges that these in vitro multicellular structures need to overcome to reach their potential, including their ability to produce organs of the correct size, achieve cell maturation and vascularization, and more.
