MBL was established in 1969 as the first manufacturer of antibodies in Japan. Early efforts of our company focused on development and production of antibodies to plasma protein. Antibodies are host defense proteins that play a main role in our bodies' immune response against invading viruses and bacteria. MBL diagnostic reagents for autoimmune diseases have contributed significantly to medicine. Our products capture 80% of the current domestic market share of autoimmune diagnostic reagents and widely used in overseas markets as well.

MBL is aiming at becoming a global enterprise providing reagents for diagnosis and basic research. Since 1981, MBL has started exporting products to Korea and Taiwan, and is finalizing sales agreements with companies in France and the U.S.A.

In 1993, we established a subsidiary MBL International Corporation (MIC) in Boston and started selling reagents for basic research. In addition, we are seeking to expand our sales through other biomedical supplies in the U.S.A. In September 1998, RhiGene Inc., which is 100% invested by MBL, was founded in Chicago as a company involved in R&D and sales of diagnostic reagents especially for autoimmune diseases.
