The POLARstar Omega is a multidetection microplate reader with Tandem Technology - highly sensitive filter based detection in all detection modes and ultra-fast UV/Vis spectrometer based absorbance capable of capturing a full absorbance spectrum (220 to 1000 nm) at a resolution of 1 nm. Read times faster than 1 second per well are possible.
POLARstar Omega, the multidetection microplate reader for life science laboratories, offers the following detection modes:
- Fluorescence Polarization (FP) / Anisotropy - including Far Red PolarScreen™
- Fluorescence Intensity - including FRET
- Time-Resolved Fluorescence (TRF) - including DELFIA®
- TR-FRET - including HTRF® and LanthaScreen®
- AlphaScreen®
- High-Performance Luminescence (flash and glow) - including BRET
- UV/Vis Absorbance - measurement of complete spectra or individual wavelengths
Because the POLARstar Omega plate reader does not have to switch filters or polarizers to read the second channel, its Simultaneous Dual Emission (SDE) detection makes FP, FRET, and BRET assays faster and more precise. Single channel FP microplate readers must read the microplate twice - once for parallel emission and once for perpendicular emission. But the POLARstar Omega collects both emission vectors simultaneously for a fantastic speed advantage. The same is true for FRET and BRET experiments that have two or more emission wavelengths.

Additional exceptional features
Stable and uniform temperature control up to 45°C or 65°C above and below the entire plate movement area, up to two on-board reagent injectors for simultaneous reagent injection and plate reading, gas vent connection and the ability to measure up to eight fluorophores / lumiphores / chromophores per well, are just a few of the many outstanding features that the POLARstar Omega has to offer.
The most flexible gas control options available
The desired atmospheric conditions necessary for certain assays can be achieved in the POLARstar Omega using the unique Atmospheric Control Unit - ACU. The ACU requires the connection of standard laboratory gases - CO2¬ and N2 and then has the ability to regulate the gases independently providing unparalleled levels of gas control in a microplate reader. O2 can be selected from 1% - 19% and the CO2 from 0% - 20%, such that any combination of O2 and CO2 within these ranges can be set without the need to order expensive pre-mixed gases or to change gas cylinders or piped gas supplies.
Stacker and robot compatibility
BMG LABTECH´s standardized microplate reader footprint and robotic software interface via DDE or ActiveX make it easy to integrate the POLARstar Omega into all existing robotic systems. The Stacker with a 50 plate capacity and optional barcode reader, is the modular attachment that can be integrated with the POLARstar Omega for medium throughput plate handling.
Software package
The POLARstar Omega software package comes with BMG LABTECH's established Omega Reader Control software and comprehensive Data Analysis Software, MARS. The highly intuitive software provides limitless possibilities for test set up where it is needed, but also offers a "Quick-Start" mode for running routine analysis with just 3 mouse clicks.
