The automated preparative high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) system featuring FractionLynx Software is used by drug researchers and other scientists to separate and collect newly-synthesized compounds, conduct impurity analyses, and clean up library compounds in a high-throughput laboratory setting. The software, which acquires data, also controls all system components including an X,Y, Z autosampler, pump, injector, UV detector, mass detector, and two fraction collectors.

Features like a 10-port switching valve allow the instrument to conduct a separation on a primary column while re-equilibrating a second column and readying it for the next separation. As a separation progresses, the mass or UV detector triggers the collection of the purified compounds from microgram to gram quantity fractions. Under either purification scheme, only the peak of interest is collected while impurities are sent to waste.
