The LUMIstar OPTIMA is a fully automated luminescence microplate reader that is designed for the widest possible range of applications based on luminescence labels:

  • Reporter gene assays luciferase, e.g. ß-galactosidase, gene activities with luminescence substrates (luminol, acridinium esters, dioxetanes.)
  • Luminescent immunoassays
  • Cell-based assays , e.g. cytotoxicity and proliferation, intracellular Ca2+ with aequorin
  • ATP assays
  • GUS assays (ß-glucuronidase)
  • ROS (reactive oxygen species)
  • Enzyme activity assays
  • Nucleic acid detection (PCR Quantification)

BMG LABTECH's Digital Photon Integration (DPI) technology and the programmable Gain control give the LUMIstar OPTIMA the best sensitivity, with extended linear dynamic range. By incorporating on-board reagent injectors, flash kinetic reactions can be measured in as little as 20 ms steps. The faster transport system allows 96-well plates to be read in as little as 50 measurements per second.

Additional outstanding features:
The LUMIstar OPTIMA comes with incubation including temperature-regulated heating plates above and below the entire plate movement area to provide uniform incubation up to 45°C or even up to 60°C. A gas vent connection can also be added , which offers a tremendous advantage for assays where special or inert gas is needed when working with atmospheric gas sensitive samples.The LUMIstar OPTIMA can be equipped with up to two on-board reagent injectors which each simulaneously accesses the measurement position providing unlimited possibilities for fast kinetic assays. Automatic optic switching allows software contolled switching from top to bottom optics for more sensivtive measurements in e.g. cell-based assays, which are closer to the bottom optics. The automatic gain calculation provides the optimum dynamic range for each assay. These are just a few of the otustanding features that the LUMIstar OPTIMA has to offer.

Upgradeable to FLUOstar OPTIMA or POLARstar OPTIMA
Due to the modular concept of the LUMIstar OPTIMA, whenever the need for fluorescence based experiments arrives, the LUMIstar OPTIMA can be upgraded to a FLUOstar OPTIMA. It can also be upgraded to a POLARstar OPTIMA to include fluorescence polarization and Simultaneous Dual Emission Detection.

Robot compatibility
The LUMIstar OPTIMA can be incorporated into a wide array of robotic systems via DDE and ActiveX interface. For mid-throughput plate handling, BMG LABTECH offers a 50-plate Stacker with optional barcode reader that can be integrated with the LUMIstar OPTIMA.

Straightforward Control and Powerful MARS Data Evaluation Software
The Windows based OPTIMA software provides an extensive range of possibilities in test parameter definitions, data reduction and analysis. The Control Software allows flexible definition of microplate layouts, filter selection, interval and injection times, measurement and shaking parameters. During the measurement, it is possible to observe the data with the Real Time Graphics feature. The Standard Curve Wizard creates an easy step-by-step calculation of a standard curve and the Template Manager is an excellent tool for building complex data processing protocols. With MARS, user-defined data analysis is simply done with one click of the mouse. Improved robotic integration capabilities with Active X and DDE interfaces, digital signature and FDA 21 CFR part 11 compliance complete BMG LABTECH's software package.
