The FLUOstar OPTIMA is a fully automated microplate based multidetection reader which incorporates four different measurement principles:
- Fluorescence Intensity - including FRET
- Time-Resolved Fluorescence - including DELFIA®
- High-Performance Luminescence (flash and glow) - including BRET
- Absorbance - UV/Vis with path length correction
It is designed for the widest possible range of non-radioactive labeled applications:
- Ca2+ Measurements (e.g. Ca2+ Flux with Fura-2 or Indo-1)
- Enzyme Activity
- Cell Toxicity, Proliferation and Viability

By integrating a high intensity xenon flash lamp and liquid light guide technology, the FLUOstar OPTIMA can cover the wavelength range from 240 -740 or even 240 – 900 nm. The FLUOstar OPTIMA can read all plate formats from 6- up to 384-well plates. The versatile optical system allows automatic switching from top to bottom reading.
Temperature-regulated heating plates above and below the entire plate movement area provide uniform incubation up to 45°C or 60°C. The optional gas vent system allows the user to either pump in an inert gas or to pull a vacuum. This is especially important when working with volatile oxidizing solutions that could damage sensitive moving parts. Optimized for kinetic assays, the FLUOstar OPTIMA can be supplied with up to two on-board reagent injectors allowing reagent injection and plate reading simultaneously. Fast filter wheels and the ability to define up to 8 sets of filters, each with individual gain and measurement timing parameters, allow analysis of multiple fluorophores in a single well (FRET, dual-emission, DNA-detection 260/280). … and these are just a few of the many outstanding features that the FLUOstar OPTIMA has to offer.
Upgradeable to POLARstar OPTIMA
Due to the modular concept of the FLUOstar OPTIMA, it is possible to upgrade to a POLARstar OPTIMA to include fluorescence polarization and Simultaneous Dual Emission detection whenever the need arrives.
Robot compatibility
Due to BMG LABTECH´s standardized microplate reader footprint and robotic software interface, the FLUOstar OPTIMA can be easily integrated into all existing robotic systems via DDE or ActiveX interface. The Stacker with a 50 plate capacity and optional barcode reader can also be integrated with the FLUOstar OPTIMA for medium throughput plate handling.
Complete Software Package with Straightforward Control and Powerful MARS Data Analysis Software
The Windows based OPTIMA software provides an extensive range of possibilities in both test parameter definitions and data reduction. The Control Software allows flexible definition of microplate layouts, filter selection, interval and injection times, measurement and shaking parameters. BMG LABTECH's powerful Data Analysis Software, MARS, contains significant ease-of-use enhancements and offers a wide range of data analysis including: validations, kinetic and assay quality calculations, data corrections, enzyme kinetics (e.g. Michaelis-Menten), curve scaling and smoothing, standard curve calculations and even user-defined formulas for data calculations. Furthermore, MARS allows all types of data display to visualize data output such as overlay kinetic plots, standard curves, various curve fits, table views, signal curve, rainbow colors view and more. The Template Manager is an excellent tool for building complex data processing protocols. MARS also complies to FDA 21 CFR part 11.
