Beta-Amyloid Precursor Protein Antibody
b-Amyloid Precursor Protein b-APP) exists in the brain as three major isoforms (b-AAP695, b-APP751, and b-APP750). These isoforms are integral membrane proteins with a single large N-terminal extracellular domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a small cytoplasmic C-terminal tail. Mutations in the beta-Amyloid precursor protein are contributory factors to Familial Alzheimer's Disease.
b-Amyloid Precursor Protein has also been identified as a useful marker for axonal injury. Most widely used b-Amyloid Precursor Protein antibodies target the N-terminus of b-APP and congregate at regions of impaired axonal vesicle transport, which is associated with axonal injury. A recent study has demonstrated that Zymed's unique C-terminus specific b-APP antibody (PAD: CT695) generates more intense signals and less background staining in comparison to the other widely used b-APP antibodies that are specific for the N-terminus of APP(1). The clinical study also demonstrated that smaller concentrations of Zymed's b-APP antibody are needed for detecting axonal injury, making it more cost-effective. Zymed's b-APP antibody is useful for ELISA, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry.
