Description

Microcarrier culture in suspension culture vessels is the industry standard to produce large amounts of product while still using a practical production process for adherent cell culture. Until now, microcarriers have been grown in glass or metal vessels. These vessels require time consuming and costly cleaning, assembly, sterilization and, in production settings, validation. Here, we describe the advantages of Corning's newest vessel, the disposable spinner flask, which is designed to be single use with no assembly required. In this study microcarriers were seeded with a transfected CHO cell line and grown in glass and disposable spinner flasks. We assessed a variety of metabolic parameters as well as cell yield and protein production. The performance of microcarrier cultures grown in disposable and glass spinner vessels was equivalent, with no statistical difference for any metric analyzed.

Advantages

  • Gamma sterilized
  • Double bagged for use in GMP conditions
  • No need for cleaning or assembly
  • Variety of tubing accessories available that can come assembled to vessel
