Biopharmaceutical manufacturers can develop buffer blending as a strategic, core competence. An informal poll reveals that buffers delivered to large scale Bioprocesses typically have a make-up variability of up to 10%. As a result, companies have worked hard to make their processes 'robust' to such variability at the cost of, among other things, product recovery and increased regulatory monitoring.
