With a recent shift in established paradigms within drug development, the need for molecular imaging platforms is increasing. By utilizing multidisciplinary fields such as synthetic chemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology, it is possible to capture images in vivo by monitoring novel, customized, and commercially available imaging probes. This article highlights the imaging uses of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET).
