PureTemp - Phase Change Materials (PCMs) DatasheetSource: ThermoSafe, Sonoco Protective Solutions
Most PCMs today are chemical formulations derived from petroleum products, salts, or water. These types of PCMs are limited in temperature range options, containment methods, thermal cycles, and latent heat capacities.
ThermoPhase powered by PureTemp is a patented, proprietary formulation of natural vegetable-based phase change materials (PCMs) for use in various temperature-control applications throughout the world, including pharmaceuticals, biologics, and clinical trials. ThermoSafe Brands is the exclusive worldwide distributor of ThermoPhase PCMs within the Life Sciences marketplace. PureTemp was submitted to and tested by the USDA and received their BioPreferredSM designation in the Heat Transfer Fluid category. This approval required rigorous testing including independent laboratory, life-cycle, and BEES analysis.
Phase Change Materials (PCMs) liquefy or solidify at precise temperatures. When the surrounding temperature falls below the phase temperature, they solidify and release their stored energy. If the temperature rises above the phase temperature, they liquefy and absorb excess energy. These two phenomena protect the product from excessive heat and cold so they help maintain product temperature for extended periods of time. ThermoPhase is engineered to react to a precise temperature, from -40° to 37° C, and to operate in a very narrow temperature range.
