Bioreactordemonstration Of Microbial Fermentation Using A Single-Use Bioreactor

We report on both batch and fed-batch E. coli fermentations at the 20-30L scale using a commercially available SUB modified for enhanced oxygen delivery and heat transfer. In batch mode, the system is able to achieve similar or better cell densities, productivities, and titers compared to a stainless steel system. In fed-batch mode, preliminary experiments indicate the system is capable of achieving high cell densities (OD600 of 186). Our data suggests that SUBs are a viable platform for running microbial fermentation in batch, and potentially fed-batch, modes.
