Discovery Fast Track At GSK Assists Academia And Adds To The Pipeline By Louis Garguilo, Executive Editor, Outsourced Pharma
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), like so many other pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, is looking to boost its pipeline. Pearl Huang, Ph.D., vice president and global head of GSK’s Discovery Partnerships with Academia (DPAc), is taking direct aim at the drug discovery concept stage to take up the challenge.
Application Note: Filter Integrity Testing Troubleshooting Guidelines By Wayne Garafola, Sartorius Stedim North America, Inc.
Integrity testing is a nondestructive physical test to determine the presence of oversized pores or other defects that may compromise a given filter's retention capability. Performing filter integrity tests is required by regulatory agencies, such as the FDA and the EU, when a product is labeled "sterile."
Poster: Influence Of Silanol Content, Humidity, And Temperature On Efficacy Of A Silica-Based Carrier By Yogesh Choudhari, Upendra Reddy, and Fred Monsuur, Grace
Recently, silica-based carriers have been widely used for the adsorption of oily and lipid-based formulations. Using silica as an adsorbent, liquid self-emulsifying drug delivery systems could be formulated in tablet or capsule oral dosage form. For this application, an ideal carrier is one which possesses high adsorption capacity and immediate desorption or release at the desired site. Three different types of carriers, granulated fumed silica (GFS), syloid XDP-mesoporous silica gel (MSG), and magnesium aluminum silicate (MAS), were selected for this study.
Application Note: Hypoxic Cell Culture Using Incubator With Precision Low O2 Control By Stacey Willard, Linette Philip, and Ma Sha, Eppendorf, Inc.
Oxygen is a critical regulator of cellular homeostasis, and as such, oxygen deprivation is lethal to normal cells. In contrast to normal tissues, solid tumors often have regions of significantly reduced oxygenation due to an inconsistent and disorganized blood supply at the center of the tumor.
Application Note: Sizing Gold Nanoparticle For Proper Conjugation By Beckman Coulter, Inc.
The inertness and biocompatibility of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) makes them very useful for specific applications such as medical imaging, drug delivery, gene delivery, scaffold directed assembly, and molecular sensing, where the size of GNPs is important.
Epoch 2 is a compact microplate spectrophotometer that combines modern touchscreen technology with excellent performance for UV-Vis measurements in 6 to 384-well microplates, cuvettes, and in microvolume samples with the available Take3 plate.
The aim of a joint project of the HAW Hamburg and the Biomedical Primate Research Center (BPRC) was to identify optimal protein expression conditions for high yields of potential malaria vaccines in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris.
