Executive Insights Into Single-Use: Maik Jornitz Of Sartorius Stedim
By Rob Wright, Life Science Leader
In the July 2011 Life Science Leader magazine, I put together an executive roundtable article on single-use technology. The intent -- gain a better understanding of the impact single-use technologies has on the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry and the environment. I received some great responses from Maik Jornitz, sr. vp of marketing, Sartorius Stedim. As a result of space limitations, not all of his answers were published. In addition to his role at Sartorius, Jornitz is the founder of BioProcess Resources LLC. With nearly 25 years of experience, he supports the biopharmaceutical industry on a global basis with a focus on validation, optimization and training in aseptic processing. Jornitz is the author and co-author of over 100 professional papers, nine books and nine book chapters, covering pre- and sterilizing filtration, integrity testing, single-use technologies, process validation, and qualification. He holds several filter and single-use technology related patents. As Chairman of the PDA Board of Directors, he has been part of multiple PDA task forces, committee member, and conference chair. Below are Jornitz's executive insights with regard to single-use for all nine of the questions posed to the original roundtable.
