Filtration- Disposable Ultipor® VF Virus Filter Systems
Details

Disposable Ultipor® VF Virus Filter Systems
While process scale systems often require an automated system for virus filtration, manifolded single-use virus capsule filters are beneficial for smaller qualification batches or scaled-down process operations.

Pre-sterilized, Pre-assembled Systems for Virus Filtration Applications
Disposable systems do not require the design, installation and validation of cleaning and steaming operations that are needed for stainless steel assemblies, thus saving time and expense. Additionally, capital cost is reduced, since a hard-piped system installation with associated utility requirements is not required.

Disposable virus filter systems can be designed with or without prefiltration and can include pre-assembly of tubing and connectors up and downstream of the filters.

These disposable systems offer many benefits, including:

  • Reduced assembly costs
  • Reduced cleaning costs
  • Reduced cleaning validation
  • Reduced costs for capital equipment
  • capsule filters can have a typical installation cost that is 80% lower than a similar sized stainless steel housing system
  • Reduced risk of lost production time due to simpler procedures
  • Reduced risk of cross contamination
  • Reduced timeline for building new production capacity
  • Simplified SOPs and reduced operator training

Pall® Ultipor VF membrane nanofilters remove significant levels of viruses from biological fluids by size exclusion, with high transmission of target proteins. They feature a unique hydrophilic, low protein binding polyvinylidenedifluoride (PVDF) membrane in a high area pleated cartridge configuration that ensures reliable direct flow performance.

Every Ultipor VF filter cartridge and capsule undergoes 100% Forward Flow integrity testing correlated directly to virus retention as described in a complete Validation Guide.

Pall Ultipor VF grade DV20 filters can remove viruses as small as 20 nm from biological solutions and have a = 3 log TR for 25 nm PP7 phage and = 6 log TR for 53 nm PR772 phage. DV50 filters are ideal for removal of 50 nm viruses and have a = 6 log TR for 53 nm PR772 phage.

System Design Process

Pall BioPharmaceuticals disposable system specialists are available to ensure a disposable bioprocess system meets all application requirements. These specialists can guide you through the system design process to help select the optimal system components, including the selection of an optimal and economical filtration scheme, and properly sized bags, tubing and connectors.

Once all components are agreed upon, the Pall Disposable Systems Engineering group provides a complete system drawing for approval. After approval, a sample system is built to ensure that all requirements are met.

Pall BioPharmaceuticals provides installation assistance to be sure that the disposable system operates as intended in the process.
