Details

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is a polypeptide growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of a wide range of epidermal and epithelial cells. The Murine EGF is a 6.0 kDa protein containing 53 amino acid residues. The source is E.coli. The product is sterile filtered and then the protein was lyophilized from Acetic Acid.

The lyophilized EGF, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated below 0°C. Reconstituted EGF should be stored in working aliquots at -20°C. Purity is greater than 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses. Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per µg (1EU/µg) of EGF.

The lyophilized EGF is soluble in most aqueous buffers. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in 10 mM NaCitrate, pH 3.0 to a concentration of 1 mg/ml. Once the protein is completely solubilized, the pH can be adjusted to the physiological range and the EGF will remain in solution.

Murine EGF is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BALB/c 3T3 cells is < 0.4 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 2.5 x 106 units/mg. Usage is for research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
