E-4031 is a specific blocker of delayed rectifier current (Ikr). Its selectivity for the small and rapidly activating component of Ikr makes it a useful tool for analyzing K+ channel activity in heart cells. E-4031 contains a methanesulfonanilide group, a basic structure of Class III antiarrhythmic agents.
