Details

The CLIPR system is an ultra high sensitivity, ultra high throughput screening system for chemiluminescence assays in microplates with up to 1536 wells. In addition to its ability to read scintillation proximity assays, the CLIPR is ideally suited to reporter gene assays. Reporter gene technology is an important application for the screening environment enabling the targeting of gene transcription and signal transduction events. It is a technology platform that facilitates the fast, accurate and reliable testing of millions of compounds on an annual basis.

Luciferase from the North American firefly is a very popular enzyme for reporter gene assays. Luciferase catalyzes the oxidation of a firefly-derived substrate called luciferin to produce light. This reaction is extremely efficient and the quantum yield is the highest of any characterized bioluminescent reaction. The bright signal makes this a valuable enzyme to use for reporting promoter activity. The CLIPR Luciferase Assay Kit from Molecular Devices Corporation was developed and optimized for CLIPR to provide a fast, sensitive and easy to perform luciferase assay.

The CLIPR Luciferase Assay reagent kit from Molecular Devices produces a long-lived 'glow' type signal with a half life of five hours and higher intensity than other vendors' kits. This signal half-life allows the user to perform the reporter gene assays using continuous process automation without significant signal decay.
