Patheon Inc., a global provider of drug development and manufacturing services to the international pharmaceutical industry, announced recently that it has named Doug Mendenhall, Ph.D. as interim head of their Pharmaceutical Development Services Unit and will also carry the interim title of Chief Scientific Officer.

Dr. Mendenhall is working under contract until such time that a permanent President is named, but will be retained as an advisor to the company on an as-needed basis. Dr. Mendenhall is a 35 year veteran in the pharmaceutical industry, having held executive positions at Abbott, GlaxoSmithKline and most recently, Merck. He has spent his career leading pharmaceutical and pre-clinical development teams, contributing to the development and commercialization of an impressive list of blockbuster drugs. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas, a Masters in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Kansas and Bachelors in Pharmacy from the University of Washington. He is also lean six sigma certified and a graduate from the Northwestern University / Kellogg Executive Management program.
