DASGIP Controller Takes Single-Use Bioreactor Technology To The Next Level
February 11, 2009
DASGIP AG, a leading supplier of Parallel Bioreactor Systems located in Juelich (Germany) is pleased to announce the successful integration of its DASGIP Control System platform with the Thermo Scientific HyClone Single-Use Bioreactor (S.U.B.) family of products. Introduced at Biotechnica 2008 in Hanover, Germany this integration of DASGIP leadership in bioprocess control and the Thermo Scientific HyClone S.U.B. platform promises to take single-use technology to the next level.
The HyClone S.U.B. platform combines traditional stirred tank reactor design with the benefits of disposable bag technology. Based on a reusable stainless steel outer support structure and a sterile Thermo Scientific HyClone BioProcess Container (BPC®) the S.U.B. delivers ease-of-use functionality coupled with the highest level of process safety available for mammalian cell culture. The risk of cross contamination is minimized as are the related process qualification and validation procedures since there is no cleaning or sterilization needed. With the DASGIP Control System platform seamlessly integrated into the Thermo Scientific HyClone S.U.B. product line you can transition from the traditional glass benchtop bioreactors associated with process development to the pilot plant applications associated the S.U.B. without introducing a second or third control platform. In the tradition of the Parallel Bioreactor System controller, the S.U.B. controller is enabled so that all set-point and process values, including speed and temperature, can be accessed through the DASGIP Control platforms user interface. In addition to the online monitoring of pH, dissolved oxygen and optional optical density, the use of the DASGIP Control System platform with the Thermo Scientific HyClone S.U.B. allows for the precise control of up to four individual gasses by means of mass flow controllers. Additionally, over pressure detection and gas flow cut-off is integral to the offering as is gas mixing ratios and the ability to flow gas to headspace and/or sparge. Further features of the DASGIP Control System platform that have become available to the S.U.B. family of products are the Triggering Automation Package as well as the support of off-line data and a SQL based process historian capable of report generation in MS-Excel. The result is a Single-Use Bioreactor enabled for multi-use control.
